Construction began in March of this year on the new Andy's Market in the Loch Lomond Marina, located in east San Rafael on the north shore of the San Francisco bay. The new store will replace the existing one, an aging and inadequate structure that Andy Bachich has operated since 2007. It will be a state-of-the-art facility, featuring the finest in fresh organic produce, meats, fish, wines, and prepared foods. The large white blocks in the construction photos are part of the "Geofoam" system, which replaces more expensive standard drilled piers or driven piles. By replacing the soil excavated for the foundations, it makes the overall building weight, when fully built, no heavier than the soil that has been removed.
The kitchen facilities for the market put most restaurants to shame, daily producing fresh pizza, pasta, bread, and a wide assortment of prepared dishes. The deli also produces a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, and other succulent dishes. Full catering is also available for events from small to large.
Perhaps the best description of what Andy's is about comes from this faithful customer:
"Love Andy's! Discovered them while on a walk with a friend. Popped in afterwards for a closer look and have been back several times. Great wine selection and 10% off 6 bottles. Just finished salmon on a cedar plank from their deli. Serve this at a dinner party. Wonderful flavors. Wonderful deli foods all made in-house. Fresh pasta, friendly staff. I will return time and again."
The market is scheduled to open in mid-December 2016.
